Eight teams from the Ivey MBA program took part in the QMARC Balancing Effect Marketing Case Competition hosted by Queen’s University. The challenge was to create a digital marketing strategy for Urban Hippie Granola (www.urbanhippiegranola). One team was chosen from each school by a panel of judges from companies including Loblaw’s and Price Waterhouse Consulting to compete against other MBA programs including Schulich, Rotman, and Smith. Prior to the competition, the Sales & Marketing Club held an internal round of presentations with an esteemed judging panel of Ivey faculty including Professors June Cotte, Neil Bendle, Miranda Goode and Kersi Antia, and faculty sponsor, Professor Dante Pirouz.

The competition took place on June 15th at Queen’s downtown campus. The winning team, Rosalind Bei, Ryan Min, Shane Freedman, Bryan Hua, and Kyle Cruz brought home the winning trophy with their digital strategy presentation.

“It was a great learning experience because we got to gather information about a real life case and was able to reach out to the company to see what they have done so far and their reputation” – Rosalind Bei

2017 Get Connected 2.0

Two key drivers for me choosing the Ivey MBA program were Ivey’s Career Management team and Get Connected. When I was accepted into Ivey, I remember thinking that Get Connected seemed far away. However, once I started the program, I quickly learned how fast time flies by at Ivey. Before I knew it, I was on my way to Toronto with my classmates for an intense three days of company information sessions and networking events with Ivey alumni and recruiters.

On Monday my classmates and I attended various company information sessions based on our career interests. After meeting with employees from each firm, we capped off the night with an Ivey alumni networking event at Brassaii. One noteworthy part of this event was watching alumni mingle with their former classmates. As I saw mini reunions occurring throughout the night, I realized how connected the Ivey Network is.

The room was buzzing with energy (and some nerves) as our class gathered in Toronto for day one of Ivey’s flagship Get Connected event, otherwise known as our “debutante ball” to introduce our class to alumni and recruiters.

From our first day at Ivey, my classmates and I had spent countless hours working with the Career Management team to build our narratives, understand the current market and practice interviewing techniques to really articulate where we have come from, the value we bring and where we want to go after the program. After months of preparation we were finally here!
